Have a '68 135 with Perkins diesel with Multipower and front end loader which I hope to gradually restore, is in reasonably good working order but it does need some love, have problems with draw bar / implements not staying in position unless I play around with the selector valve (which sits on the transfer plate on the lift cover) that feeds oil to the "Gresen" direct. control valve for the loader, while changing hyd/trans fluid, I found a no. of small pieces of steel (ranging from typical grinds up to approx. 1/4") as well as part of a steel ring ( approx. 1/16" thick X 1 1/2 - 2" diam.) in the base, removed the seat and raised the lift cover, from what I can see, the gears look good, fluid did have a lot of water in it as when I bought tractor last year the shifting lever boots were in bad shape, I realize now (after buying an IT shop manual) that there are a no. of "things" I should have done before taking things apart, I'd appreciate suggestions as to the following:

1) where should I look and/or what might these pieces be from ?
2) are there seals, bearings, etc. that I should be changing ? (I have a new hyd strainer as the previous had some small tears in it.)
3) how do I re-install the long spring (Item 34) to the draft control cam (Item 40) (as per Fig 286 on page 88 of IT Manual MF-27)? The other one for the position control cam appears to be held in place by God himself ! It flew apart as I was lifting the lift cover off...I thought that I was being very carefull but..... ..
4) do I neeed to get EVERY bit of filings out of the reservoir before new fluid and reassembly? 5) what else should I be doing / changing / adjusting before reassembly?
6) do I have to reassemble everything and re-start adjustments before taking the cover off again and making "internal" adjustments.

If any of you have experience with the above, I would really appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance,

W.B.

Similar pieces of metal to what you describe in my MF35 were differential thrust washers.

Gavin;

Thanks for your response. Are these thrust washers critical i.e. do I need to explore further and replace them ?
