I have replaced the alternator on my MF 1100 with an alternator with an internal regulator. I ran the hot lead from the oil pressure switch to the field terminal on the alternator. I hooked up the power lead from the alternator to the battery circuit where it was originally hooked up. The problem is that the alternator will not charge until I rev the engine to about 18-1900 rpm. Then it charges just fine, even at idle. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank You
Eric N.

Eric,
The alt. must be "excited" before it will charge. This is not happening till you spin the alt. pully to about 1350rpm.. You may need a smaller pully on the alt.

Our 270 does that, but we only have to rev up a little.

When I replaced the alt. on our 1150 I got a new keyswitch from dealer, off-on-start. I think it was from the 1xx series? Anyhow it looks the same and fits good. I hooked the sensor wire to the origional output wires, and the hot was from the key. I didn't trust our oil pressure switch. Be sure to unhook the regulator.

We always had regulator problems and this finally fixed them.

Another reason I put a new keyswitch was so I could have the radio and other stuff on a switch.

Go to parts and supplies on ths site.
Go to the one marked Genesee and look the 6 to 12 volt info and go to the bottom of the page it will tell you were the #1 and #2 terminals hook up at. The pulley size may make a difference also .Are you using the delco alt.?

I will check and see if my alternator is a 10-SI and proceed. Thanks for the help.
