Recently bought a MF135 Diesel to use w/ my 6' finish mower, among other things. Have no prior experience w/ MF multi power functions. Yard has a decent hill in front. Have noticed that tractor does not seem to hold back when descending this hill, although it does catch from time to time. Was under the impression that the M-P, when switched to high, would cause the tractor to have a controlled hold back when descending down a hill, vs. "freewheeling". Also, have noticed that once I begin the ascent up the hill, the tractor almost acts like it is shifting down a gear because its speed decreases. In addtion, while going up the hill, have felt what feels like a slip of the transmission as the tractor jerks from time to time. Tractor runs great but I'm concerned w/ these goings on. Anyone w/ more experience w/ M-P have thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
MS

The Multi power transmission has two pair of gears. The other is eguipped with a ratchet, which will let go when transmission spins faster than engine. The other pair is eguipped with a clutch, which engages when the mp is switched to high. The ratchet also prevents the tranny to be locked to high and low in the same time. When you stop in an uphill, the transmission locks, because ratchet and clucth are both holding.

Your tractor's multipower clutch is propably worn , because it seems to "shift down" in an uphill, as you said. Or then the multipower pump is bad.

I believe the freewheeling is normal for a Multi-power equipped tractor. It should only do it in high, but not low. Check Big Dean's web site, he has forgotten more about these tractors than I will ever know!
