I have just purchased a FE-35 3 cyl Perkins diesel. It has primary & secondary fuel filters that I am about to change. When changing them will any air get into system requiring me to prime the fuel system and if so what is the easist way to prime system. I would also like to change the screen in the fuel bowl.

I have a Perkins manual. Bleed from the tank to the motor. There is a small mesh filter bove thwe fuel tap in the fuel tank which can be a problem if things are really dirty. Mesh filter above fuel bowl on low pressure fuel pump is difficult to remove and not available to replace - I need one to. Kits are available for low pressure fuel pump if it is old but do not contain the mesh screen. Loosen bleed screws and hand pump low pressure pump until a good flow is obtained at the filters. This may be good enough to start it. If still a problem loosen pipes at each injector and turn motor over until fuel is seen. Retighten and start. I think big Dean has more details on his site - Link

Derek,
don't know anything specific about the FE-35 but when you change the fuel filter on any diesel you will have to bleed the system of air. Normally there is a bleed plug on the top of the filter casing and more than likely on the injector plug.

Someone with specific knowledge of the FE35 could assist more.
