I can't control the engine rpms on my MF65 diesel. Starts up and rpms climb to the danger point when I shut it down. Throttle linkage appears to be intact and functional. Any other possible causes besides the governor in the injection pump? Thanks.

You might want to check the return line. If it is pinched or clogged in any way there's no place for the excess fuel to go,and makes the engine run away

I am not expert but you could also check that the butterfly value that controls the amount of air allowed into the intake manifold is not jamed. Someone I bought some implements off had wasps build a mud nest in the air intake pipe of his TEF20 diesel and caused the same symptoms as you describe. All it required was the butterfly value to be cleaned out.

does your tractor have a oil filled air cleaner? if it has check the level of oil in it, oil coming past the rings or valve guides can cause this also, but all these problems would also make lots of smoke,
if there is only a little smoke its proberly the governors have faulted in the injector pump
but do check the arm that has the throtle linkage attached to it as the nut could come loose and allow the shaft turn inside the injector pump.

air leaks into the lines sometimes do that. Also when you are running out of diesel fuel it does that ( for the same reason). Too much air, not enuff fuel
