I have MF135 4cyl continental gas. When it runs awhile and gets hot under heavy usage (plowing or heavy brush hogging)it quits running. There is no spark to the plugs. When I take off the distributor cap and touch the points it sparks then put it back togethe it runs fine for a while then same happens. I replaced condensor and the points do not seem to be stuck together. Other than that it runs fine for extended peiods unless under heavy work loads. Any ideas?? Coil? etc...?

What you describe sounds like a condenser shorting to ground under heat load, but you say you have changed it. Check the ignition coil, it can act the same way.

Thought which comes to mind is
the wire leading from the point set
to the coil. I wonder if there is a short
or open circuit in the wire. Possible chafing of the insulation or maybe an intermediate open in the wire, hidden by the intact insulation?

Would it be worth it to replace the wire
to try the theory.

I have heard also that if your
distributor shaft and or bushings
are worn to the point that the
shaft wobbles, there is a quick
fix.
The point gap can sometimes be
opened up to a wider setting than the recommended specifications to help overcome the problem.
I have heard of using a setting as much as .035 in extreme cases to help
with the proper operation of the points.
