I have a Massey Fergerson 35 to which I have attached a "Big Bee" 72 inch finishing mower. The mower manual calls for 540 r.p.m.'s what is the best gears to use on the Massey Ferguson to produce the best results?

I have a Massey 231S I mow in 1 High or 4 Low if the grass is damp. 1 high will yeild 2 acres per hour. Anything faster does not produce satisfactory results.

I mow with a 60 inch brush hog using a 35 and usually will use 1st high and sometimes 2nd high. Depends on the height of the grass.

MF 65 manual calls for 2nd gear, high range for those kind of implements

Second gear in high range will really be flying if you have the engine wound up to PTO RPMs. I doubt it would do a decent job at that speed. Would be hard to stay in the seat on rough ground.

I think it's more trial and error, and depends on the conditions. Play around with different gears and see what works. I generally mow in 3rd low, and play with the multi-power depending on how heavy the stuff is.
