Alright, I took it apart to replace the steering gear box, and since the wiring was all brittle and some was burnt, I tried to re-wire.
I've obviously got it wrong, two NEW batteries have died and things get hot and smoky.
It has a Delco alt. with one big terminal, one small ground term., and a plastic plug with a black and a blue wire. Has an alt. gauge that now points to discharge with engine running, has a volt. regulator, and an oil press. gauge. No lights, no dash lights, fuel gauge is disabled. This SHOULD be simple, but electricity is voodoo science to me, so I'm lost, my jumper cables are burnt up, my hand and arm are burned.
All the links for wiring diagrams I found with a site search appear to be dead. I need a CARTOON wiring diagram, not one you need an advanced degree and a magnifying glass to read.
Help, please, I need to run the bushhog, the grass is four feet high and growing.

Well, the first thing I would do is go to your local Massey Dealer and get a factory wiring harness for it, it will make you do your shorts when the bill comes up but it is so nice to just have everything new and it should come with a diagram showing where everything goes. I had to get one for my 3020 Deere and it was about $200.00 and much easier than trying to make one myself. That is in my opinion(what ever thats worth) the best bet on doing the job right. Hope this helps and good luck on what ever you decide.

Check your email I dont know how to post a scaned wire photo. I dont think you should have a ground terminal on the alt as the case is the ground.

Well, I don't know. That wire was there when I started, I never did have to remove the alt. from it's bracket, so the wire stayed.
Thanks for sending the diagram, but, this 135 is a diesel, with no coil or distributor, and there are FOUR connections on the alt. ; the ground wire I mentioned, one large terminal opposite that, and a two-prong male terminal for a two-wire plug.
Afraid I'm still lost.

Try Big Deans site his new adress is>Link
Could be your wiring has been altered and is not standard. Most MF135 tractors were fitted with generators. Converting to an alternator is often done as the generators are hard to get to replace. If this is the case then get an alternator with an inbuilt regulator. You only need to wires then. Power to the alternator and power out to the battery.

with the alternator the battery terminals are back to front to the generator and when the engine is running the gauge should read charge not discharged
