I am having difficulty in removing the stub axle (outboard end) from the planetary. I have removed everything from the planet case. I have removed the retainer and the two piece ring that fits into the groove in the inboard end of the stub axle. We have used a 20 ton press, but the axle will not budge.
Am I missing something?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

You are on the right track. Sometimes the axle shaft really seize to the bearing. They are hard to support in a press but that is what you have to do. You may try warming the bearing, or possibly have to cut it. The harder one pushes on the brg. the tighter the cone tends to squeeze the inside race. I presume you are attempting to change the axle seal. Good Luck

I cannot remove the outboard bearing before removing the wheel axle (stub) from the planetary carrier, the bearing is concealed between the carrier and the outboard end of the housing.
I took the assembly to an 18 wheeler repair facility, they supposedly applied 50 tons to the stub axle and it still would not budge. They were fearful of their safety and suspended efforts.
We tried again yesterday to press the axle from the carrier, we used a jack bolt combined with the 20 ton press, then heated the joint, yet it failed to budge.
