I have recently bought a T.E.D 20 fergy, It has a Standard motor (vanguard). Running this motor on petrol and towing a 3ft slasher, the motor is working far too hard, needing full revs to work at all. Just putting the Hyd on requires a good ammount of throttle when the slasher is attached.
Is this usual, or is the problem not an engine one!!! Thanks in advance for any helpfull replies to this message, P.s the Northern territory is in Australia, not canada!!!!

It does not sound right. It should run a 3 foot slasher.

The motor and the rest of the tractor are easy to work on and Bareco dealers will be able to get virtually any part for it. The Bareco web site has great parts diagrams and part numbers.

The Gregory's Manual Massey Ferguson TE20-FE35 (it is number 187 in the Gregory series) is also excellent and easy to get.

Hi there,

The TED should have enough power to drive the 3 foot slasher ok. I guess that you are running on Petrol not TVO. Do you still have the manifold heat shield on the tractor. The guard is to keep the manfold hot, you do not want this when running on Petrol.

If you do decide to rebuild the engine, try to get parts for a TEA. The TEA (petrol) has higher compression ratio.

Have fun with the Fergy
