I have a question about a tractor I saw at a sale yesterday. The tractor was a large older Massey with a big six cylinder MM diesel in it. Can anyone shed some light on the history of this tractor? Thanks

I've got a MF97 which is a 4 wheel drive, and as I understand, M&M built these for Massey. Oliver built some tractors about the same time for Massey and they were the MF98. The MF97 I think is the same as a M&M G706. The MF95 was the same as a M&M G705 which is a 2 wheel drive. I could be wrong, and stand to be corrected, but this is what I've found.

at the time the 97 was made MF did not have a big tractor or even the design for one but the market called for one so MF farmed them out to MM. they were made for the plane states for wheat farming

Joe, I couldn't wait around to see it sell. It was a two wheel drive with a cab. Somebody at the sale said that Massey had a fire at their plant and MM built tractors for them for a while. That could be all false as far as I know or is it true? The serial tag on the engine said Massey, but was manufactured by MM for them.
