Good News: I received delivery of my MF35 yesterday, which was dropped off at a farm close to me. I popped over, she looked great, the farmer started her up, I hopped on and drove her home and had her running for at least an hour as I ferried a couple of implements from his place to mine.

Bad News: After stopping her, I couldn't start her. In fact there was no movement in the starter motor at all.
This is my first tractor and before I start checking battery, motor, alternator etc.
Is there a secret little safety switch that I must turn to kick her into life?
It just seems strange that there would be no life in her at all, after she started first time before?

Thanks to all your help with this.

It was a simple case of the H/L lever needed to be in S for Start ! :-)
She started like a dream.

Cheers

Keith

If the starter doesn't even run, it's most likely the H/L shift lever not being in neutral. Then, if it's the diesel engine, and the starter does crank, but it won't start, don't forget to disengage the shutoff. On the left side down lower than the ignition switch, there is a knob that you pull out for shutoff. You must have done that to shut it down - if it's a diesel. Pull it out slightly to disengage and let it retract back in and it should start.

After several months with my MF35 diesel, I still sometimes crank it without disengaging the shutoff, but as soon as it cranks and doesn't start, I know why and disengage the shutoff, and it starts immediately.

to start my MF-35 I must have the Low-High lever for the rear end in neutral. That is a safety lockout. Also I turn my ignition switch all the way to the right and then back to the left one click. Then I pull back the choke, push the starter button and it starts.
If this fails ask your neighbor farmer how HE started it.

I'd try to get it figured out here before I let the neighbor know I'm a rookie...is it not the "MAN" thing to do...best of luck..

You are quite right, I expect there will be many more times that I will look like a rookie, but to do this within 24hrs of getting the tractor, well that is certainly not the 'MAN' thing.
I'm off home now to try all the good ideas posted on the site. If these don't work, then I'll send the wife round to ask how to start it! :-)

Yup, especially the L/S/H lever (S for start)

Make sure it's in neutral.
