If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate your suggestions. I have a 65 MF that the 3 pt will not lower. I move the controls to lower it and it will not lower. It will drop when the engine is killed. But when restarted, it will raise again. Can you point me in the right direction, is there a valve I need to check or whom should I ask? Thanks

Hello, Greg -

Possibly loose linkage. Top 3-point connection? If this is loose front to back, constant pressure forward (I think) can keep the arms up. Otherwise, something inside.

You can inspect it through the right cover plate - the one with the transmission oil level dipstick on it. You'll have to drain a gallon or two of oil out of the transmission, or run the right wheel up on a 6x6 block (or sloped ground) before removing the cover.

If you break the gasket, silicone caulking works well as a replacement.

Inside, there are two thin levers dropping from the cover to contact the pump actuating lever top roller just about at the oil level. Both move the pump lever back an inch or so in response to draft and position control (quadrant lever) movement, to raise the lift arms.

In the down position, the pump lever is fully forward. From your description, something is preventing this from happening.

Be sure the unit is well blocked to prevent rolling!

See if the forward/backward movement is there. You can start the tractor at idle speed, and move the pump lever carefully with a wooden stick to see if the arms are lifting/lowering.

If so, the control valve is ok, and the linkage is out of whack - the I&T manual is your best help for re-adjusting. This can be done without removing the top cover.

Hope this helps; let us know how you make out.

Hello BC Had a Ford tractor that did that once. (raised up and wouldn't come down). Seems the linkage to the control valve lost a cotter pin and then the hinge pin. This let the control valve come out but no linkage to move it back in. Took a long magnet to retrieve cotter pin and hinge pin out of sump, replaced and AOK. Hope yours is that simple. You might get an I&T manual for that tractor. There should be a set of procedures in there to do a diagnostic of the lift. Would be a place to start.
