Hello, I just purchased a MH50 S. N. RGM 509336. I think this is a 57 model but not sure. Can anyone help me track that s.n. to be sure? Also like I said, this is an MH 50 but on the fenders it has decals saying "massey ferguson" I have a owners manual of the mh50 that has the decals "massey Harris" So when I go to restore, which will be correct, massey harris or massey ferguson? any help appreciated.

M-H made Massey Harris 50's for three years by the serial number lists. 1955 #500,001 to 500,472 1956 #500,473 to 510763 1957 #510,764to515,707 They also made the Tan colored Ferguson 40 duringing this period. I suppose in 1958 everthing carried the Massey Ferguson name and expanded this line of good utility tractors.

You have a fine tractor. My MH 50 has served me well. I had the head rebuilt to run on unleaded and replaced the clutch a few years back. It just keeps humming along. It's been in the family since new. I would not be able to live on my hill without it. It plows snow in the winter and grades the 1/4 mile of road in the summer. I mow about 20 acres and bring in several cord of wood every year. In between it plows the neighborhood gardens and hauls manure from the barn.

A MH 50 has a slightley differnt hood than a MF 50 if it is original The MH 50 has shapes like a 44 MH down each side .

From my records you have a 1956 Massey Harris 50. They DID make Massey Harris's from 1955 thru 1957. Yours would be a late 1956. In 1958 they changed over to Massey Ferguson. The 50 and the Ferguson (not Massey Ferguson) 40 are the same tractor. It is not unusual to see Massey Ferguson on the tags and even decals since the merger took place in 1953-54. I would guess however the MF info on the fenders were put on later.

Thanks, I should have done a little more searching. I found the following on a Massey Harris site. And I am assuming it is correct.
"Model 50 produced from 1955 to 1956 as Massey Harris 50 produced from 1957 to 1964 as Massey Ferguson 50"

According to this site, you have a Massey Ferguson late 1956 model. Massey Harris doesn't list a model 50.
