Governor Maintained Speed

I am having a problem with the MF65 gas tractor not maintaining the engine speed. The governor works, but the tractor engine speed slow down unless you hold the throttle down to keep it at a certain speed. Is there a good way to diagnose what is causing it? I tried tighting the cork slip for the throttle. The tractor was apart and I am wondering about the big spring on the governor rod or the governor itsself.
Thanks

I had the same problem, only worse. With mine, the tractor would spit and cough whenever going up a hill or trying to pull anything. It turns out that the guy who had it before me removed/lost a couple of pieces at the governor end of the throttle control arm. Made it about three inches too short. I have the tractor apart for a ground-up resoration so I don't yet know if adding those pieces back (a double spring and adjustment) will fix the problem. But I can't imaging losing those parts helped any.

The coughing and spitting could be the carburetor. I just rebuilt mine and it helped. These old tractors build up a lot of sludge and rust in there over the years. Will try and adjust the governor this weekend. Good luck.

Was having a similar problem with my TO-35. Found the throttle control rod between the carb and the governor arm was adjusted too short.

Am not familiar with MF65, but suggest you check governor adjustment procedure in appropriate shop manual.

FYI, had to adjust my control rod longer than required by shop manual. Good Luck
