MF 255 white smoke

I have a MF 255 Diesel with the A4 236 motor. It has 1700 original hours and has a pretty common habit of blowing a little white smoke only when revving the throttle up when engine is at operating temperature. I have done a radiator pressure test and everything appears to be fine. I am thinking it is something to do with my fuel pump or faulty injectors. The tractor starts and runs excellent, has plenty of power, and does not put out any smoke when working it, except when increasing RPMs. It does not use any oil or radiator fluid either. Does anyone have any suggestions, and is it anything to be concerned with?

it could be just burning condensation in the muffler while warming up.

What I hve found with diesel engines blowing white smoke is that it is getting moisture into the cylinders.Bruce

It could be possible that the injection pump is timed incorrectly.
My solution would be to try and advance the timing.

don't worry about it I've had a MF 590 do it for the last 7000 hours with no noticeable problems I suspect its wear in the injector pump It still pulls like a train so I've left well alone.

Are you quite certain there is not a slight bluish tone to the white? - especially when the sun falls right into the puff?
It might be a touch of engine oil then, not enough to show drastically on the dipstick, but just enough to colour the exhaust. If they are not burning, the oil fumes will be white with just a touch of blue.

It might have a little blue, but conditions have got to be just right to see it. The exhaust is completely clear, until I try to increase the RPM's, and at that point it puts out a little white. My new NEW Holland TN70, MF 165, along with our other diesel equipment usually puts out a dark charcoal gray, or black exhaust when increasing RPM's. I am going to keep a close eye on all of my fluids and everything.

White smoke is usually a sign of a little moisture getting into the cylinder.

Are you losing any fluid at all?

I've got a 255 and mine doesn't do this.

I'm wondering if there may be a spot on the head gasket that is passing a very small amount of moisture when the engine is really working hard as when accelerating rpm?

I do know Big Dean is your man though to help.

No it does not appear to be loosing any fluids at all. I could be wrong, but if it was a leaky head gasket, I would think that it would leak all the time. It is possible though with the sudden increase of RPM's. Does yours blow black smoke instead when revving?

I get no smoke at all out of mine.

Usually, if your injectors are a little out of sorts on a diesel, I think you will see dark smoke. That's from experience over the years. A neighbor uses a JD and when it gets in a strain like hitting a fire ant hill with his mower cutting hay, his will puff black smoke.

I have however seen white smoke on several occasions over the years on cars. Usually, I was heading for a head gasket job.

MOST DIESEL ENGINES EMIT WHITE SMOKE WHEN THE INJECTOR PUMP TIMING IS ADVANCED TOO HIGH. LOOK IN A SERVICE MANUAL FOR THE CORRECT SETTING FOR YOUR TRACTOR.ANOTHER TELLTALE SIGN IS A SLIGHT PINGING SOUND FROM THE ENGINE.YOUR PUMP SHOULD HAVE SLOTTED HOLES TO ADJUST THE TIMING.
