I have a chance to buy a MF 35 for $8500. Runs well with rebuilt engine but I'm not familiar with the 4 cylinder gas engine. Can anyone tell me more about this engine and do you know what "turf special" means?

The price seems way too high. "Turf Special" means it has a low center of gravity. It will have shorter spindles in the front, small diameter wheels/tires and maybe a lower numeric rear axle ratio. Don't buy such a tractor if you require ground clearance, such as in agricultural use; they were designed for mowing, fertilizing, spraying turf. The 4 cyl gas engine is good, but I would never spend $8500 for one. Keep looking for 35 or something similar like 135, 50 etc.

saw one in an ad for $4000.00 with new overhaul and like new tires..not a turf special, and in central missouri...has been in this particular paper for about 2 months now so must be considered high at that price otherwise it would have sold already.

I have a 1963 MF-35 Turf Special and rebuilt the engine and replaced the clutch about three winter back. It runs great now. Not worth more that $4500.00. I paid $2800 10 years ago but put-in $2000.00 for rebuild of engine and new clutch and this was my labor and a friend. Its rusty but that's because the previous owner never garaged it. I keep it in the garage. Keep looking and you'll find one more reasonably priced.(A price like that sounds like an e-bay price. "over priced")

I agree with Gordon...that price is WAY too high. Even if the tractor was completely restored, new tires and paint, rebuilt engine, etc. it would bring around $5000 on a good day. Keep looking. A real solid MF-35 should be more in the $3500 range.

The z134 engine was common for this model, I have owned one for ten years, and used them since they were new, some things i have learned are- don't overheat or a overhaul will be needed- keep the air clearner serviced-it is common for rear axel seals to need to be replaced, gas tanks rust inside causing fuel problems, I changed mine over to propane. If i can be of any help i will be glad to do so Gordon-(TN) I don't know where you are but the price is more than double the price in TN
