Hello. I am told that continental made the 277 motor in an industrial/military model that had a lot better head on it thus increasing the horsepower. Any info?

Hi Larry-The military model MH-1-162 used the 162 continental engine. The same one used in a MH-30.The continental 277 is the same engine as the continental 260.The only differance is the size of the bore. The 260 has a 3-7/8-in bore and the 277 has a 4-in bore. From what I can find in my data book the 277 was only used in a farm application. There was a model I-244 and model I-330-G built for military. Larry,
A Case Dozer used the J-382(vintage 1960), model
number...was 1000(?). The crankshaft was rebalanced, pushing about 96 HP. The H-277 was offered as a Transportation engine and open power
unit. Five years after the last 444 was built,
the engine was basically the same. Perhaps just
talk, or a performance auto engine shop tweaked
a H-277 to optimum power, for a puller.
