A little off the subject of tractors,I had a 76 ford courier P/U made by mazda.I has down in Florida ,middle of summer ,about 100 degrees and it over heated. So the first thing I did was take out the thermostat"wrong" after that ,about ten minutes at highway speed and it was boiling, over and over again.went to the parts store and an old man said it sounded like the water was traveling too fast to get cooled off.I thought he was full of !/?< anyway I put in a new thermostat and it's still running ,been 4 years and never been hot again.so I guess some folks might know more than me.

my 165 gas only runs that hot under heavy loads. thermostats do play a large part in this, and it probably wouldn't hurt to check yours. i have just the opposite problem with my 285, and it runs a little cool.

sounds like the problem Chris was having in the above post. the thermostat restricts the flow enough to have it leisurely go through the radiator and cool down, vs. rushing through and not having time to cool down. Put a thermostat in there and I would think it would run a little more regulated
