Trying to determine the motor that's in this unit. The owner says it is a Chrysler. I've seen it by trouble light...good sized six cylinder flat head motor. Would this (or could this) be a Chrysler? Or more likely a Continental?

Woody: Chrysler 230 flathead. Industrial version of the same engine that was in the original Dodge power wagon 3/4 ton truck. Keep the dust off them, they burn real good. Good Luck. Tom

Supposedely tach's are accurate on both. If I understand piston slap correctly, wouldn't it do the same thing under full load?

Oil pressure is fine on both according to dash gage. It's not possible to dyno test. Cold weather starting is fine on both, in fact both came from Canada. Oil seems thick on the one that doesn't have the noise I'm refering to.

What does the Amsoil test kit check for?

Thanks for your response.
