I was trying to adjust the rear spin out wheels and cannot get several of the locks loose. I have oiled and let set with no luck. Does anyone have any advice? Use a torch and heat?

Thanks,
Tom

I replaced the tires on my 'ol 65 and unbolted the entire casting, soaked them in diesel for a day or so and was able to get them moving again. I had to replace the rims as the tires were loaded for years. Dang that salt but sure miss the weight!

One wheel's lugs came loose fairly easily but the other has not budged. I thought I would probably have to use a torch. Thanks for the info.

what worked for me was to leave the tires on and use wood blocks to fill up the wheel well til a hydrualic jack on top of blocks touches rim at top, then jack slightly til the bolt turns. Mine busted several snap-on 1/2 inch square sockets til I wised up. The bind is because of the rim being bent from years in service and pressure holds the bolts. Jacking it (easy does it) relieves this pressure & mine turned easily then. Jack a little, try the bolt; jack a little more, try to turn bolt again til it works. Breaker bar is better than a rachet.

If you have not read my note on 5/06/02, please do so.

My lugs must have been in far worse shape than Bob's. Even after taking them off and putting them in a vice, I could not turn them. Like I said, I had to heat mine cherry red to get them to turn..... but there was a lot of rust and crud built up inside them.

If mine had not been in such bad shape, I believe Bob's idea might have worked.

I replaced the rear tires on my 1964 MF65 (38" tires) with spinout rear wheels last fall. I think the tires were the original tires and I don't think the spinout lugs had been loosened in decades. I couldn't get them to budge, even with an impact wrench. I had to take the spinout lugs off and heat them with an oxy/accet. torch to cherry red to get them to budge. It was somewhat of an undertaking, but I got all the lugs to work...lots of rust built up in them. Don't know if that helps, but that is what I had to do. Good luck!
