I have a 1964 MF65 diesel and I just asked my MF dealer the very same question the other day. He said to use permatran in it due to having the multi-power. He said it was a mistake to use 80 or 90 wt. mineral oil in a tractor with multi-power. I pointed out that the manual said to use the 80 or 90 wt. mineral oil, but he said very few tractors back then had the multi-power option and that permatran was the way to go with multi-power. I don't think my tractor has permatran in it right now, but I might drain it and try it. Just my two cents worth since I just asked the other day.

My MF35 manual calls for 80 weight mineral oil in the combined gear box and hydraulic system. The spec number is M1103, GL1 type oil. I saw some recently at an MF dealership. Don't let them tell you to use Permatran, M1103 can be ordered in and is the right oil. I'll look in my manual to see what the multipower uses but I think it's the same. If it's different, I'll post it.

Randy: What is the problem with the permatran? I am rebuilding my MF35 diesel and the MF guys all say to use the permatran III fluid. I know the manual calls for the mineral oil fluid, but the MF guys state that the permatran is better. How can I find out who is telling the truth or which is really better. Even big dean says to use the permatran...I think he said that..will have to reclarify with him. thanks. Orlando

90 Gl 1 is 40wt sae and permatran is about 20wt sae. If you use the permatran in an old tractor and the three point is worn you can have trouble, because of the thinner viscosity. I have an instant reverse trans in my 205, a kind of automatic. You don"t use 90 in this part of the trans, you use 20 sae, or permatran. Be careful,Mike
