I live in Calif where its warm most of the time. Can someone tell if there are any disadvantages to buying a diesel as apposed to the gas engines. How about maintenance issues.
Thanks, Jerry S

The diesel doesn't drink the bottom out of your pocket in fuel, and if you keep your fuel clean and free from water, change the oil a little more often than recommended, and swap the filters regularly, it will last you a lifetime with almost no maintenance besides that. It is somewhat harder on the battery, though. (My batteries last abt. three yrs on the diesel, but then they will do fine on my gasguzzler.)If you buy a diesel, dont buy one which has tasted ether, as that may have ruined the piston rings.

Hey Jerry, in my opinion there are very few disadvantages of the diesel vs. gas, #1 would have to be initial cost diesel engine tractor will cost more than gasburner, if you have a basic working knowledge of how an engine operates you will find a diesel easier to work on than a gasburner (no darn spark plugs and the problem of getting them to work LOL) keep your fuel filter(s) changed regularly as the injection pump is the heart of the diesel it does the work of the carburetor and distributor on a gas engine and is not cheap to repair, in my opinion buy the diesel you wont be sorry.
