brought home a (free) massey 180 diesel and the engine wont turn over, all signs are that it is froze up. it has been sitting for 6 years after the owner doused it with ether tryng to start it. He claims it was turning over when he left it but couldn't start it. what should I dump in the cylinders to help free it up?

Well depending on who you talk to, you can use denatured alcohol which many John Deere people use, also diesel is a favorite. I have also used a carbinated drink such as coke ( the acid will loosen as well as eat away the rust).Just remember it didn't get stuck over night and it probably won't free up overnight either. Fill the cylinders with the "drink of choice" and be patient. Try rolling the engine over after it's soaked for a few days. Be easy and don't get too rough. if it was free be very patient and you'll get out for a little of nothing. Pull the injectors out and pour in through the hole. Good luck, David.
