My m-h 44 book says to put the primary brake shoe in front with the weak spring. It says that the primary shoe has red paint on the edge. Of course the red paint is gone. How can I tell the difference in shoes?

The last reply said the primary shoe has more lining that is incorrect. The primary shoe will have less lining during a brake application the primary shoe will be the first to contact the brake drum, this will then cause a mechanical advantage in forcing the rear shoe which has the larger lining surface to apply.

I am a licenced mechanic.
