Two days ago I bought a MF35 Deluxe gas engine tractor. Serial number makes it to be a 1963. It has 651 hours on it. All of the joints and linkages on it are original and are very tight, so I believe the hours are correct. The only things I can find wrong on it is the right fender is bent slightly and the paint is weathered with some surface rust. Will the value of the tractor be enhanced by painting it, or should I leave it as is and just protect it with some wax.

Thanks, Dale

I like to see old tractors in there orignal condition. It shows just how long the older farm machines out-last the hich-tech stuff they are building today. As far as painting your tractor it is a personal choice. The old tractors look good repainted or not.In regaurds to the value what is it wourth to you.No matter what the average working person can afford to pay collecters with ulimited resources will always be able to drive the prices higher. It is going to get to the point where the average working person won't be able to enjoy the fun of restoring these old classic pieces of our heritage.

Personally I like them as original as possible.
I know that some people make their tractors into something they never were, even as new, but as I said, I like them weathered and worn though fully functional.
Concerning value - here in Denmark you can buy a 35 gas in a fair shape for less than $1500. A 3cyl. perk diesel will cost you another $500. In almost unused mint condition and totally original, a 35x perk with multipower can be bought for about $3500-4000. I spent less than $500 on my two '35's grand total. Having read about the pricing in the US, I think it is totally out of proportion. You gladly pay $4500 for something we would call scrap. Come over here and make a good deal!

Why are the older tractors so much cheaper there then in the U.S. or Canada? They had to be exported to Europe at one time, didn't they?

My two 35's were built in Coventry, UK.
Most of the tractors sold here are license built somewhere in Europe. JD's in France and Germany, Case/IH also France and Germany, MF's in England,
Ford/New Holland in England, Germany and Italy.
Only the largest of the Ford's and JD's are imported from USA as these don't amount enough in the sales statistics to be produced locally. At least it has been that way until lately. Some dealers, who lost their dealership to the "big ones" have begun importing McCormick, I believe from Canada.
Needless to say, the amount of tractors sold in Denmark is like a snowball in H*ll compared to yours, and most of those are small tractors, the largest ones up to 125-150hp and a few larger ones. The 35 and 135, Ford Dexta and tractors of similar size were common in the sixties. The average acreage farmed has since then increased, due to so many farms going out of business and their land sold off to bigger farms, and this has made these small tractors obsolete and available at a fair price. A great amount of good small tractors have been bought by dealers and reexported to former east block countries after 1990 and the fall of "the wall" so we do not have so many tractors left, but it is still possible to find fine units at prices previously mentioned.
I hope this set some thoughts straight. I still find the difference in price so big, that it must have other causes too.

I paid $4500 for mine but with the exception of the paint, it is in excellent condition. Sure wish they were as inexpensive here in the southwest U.S. as they are across the pond where you are

Oh I bet there are alot of thing in Denmark that are great buys, but here in the US as usual we ALWAYS GET SCREWED because big brother will not step in as they do in your country and keep things priced the way it should be. I shouldnt complane but when we have to pay $ 50,000.00 for a new Industrial tractor its no wounder the farmers are dropping like flies.
