I've got an old Massey Ferguson 2244 crawler with a Drott loader.

Parts seem to be available thru Minnpar, and there's a local shop which can get undercarriage parts, but I'll have to rebuild the D3-152 Perkins pretty soon.

Anyone here ever work a 2244? What's it capable of - and what are its limitations?

Any contacts, comments or opinions are appreciated - this is a great-looking, stout little crawler.

Thanks,

Joey in Dallas, TX

Hi Joey -

We had one for 15 years. Completely rebuilt during that time.

They are an excellent machine. Our biggest problem was keeping the bolts straight - the engine and loader had SAE bolts, and the transmission and running gear seemed to be mostly metric.

The second problem was keeping the clamp brackets tight on the heavy rod (2" plus diameter)running across under the transmission to the track frames or loader frame - I forget which. The two brackets had 2 heavy (3/4"+ - metric equivalent) cap screws which kept loosening and breaking.

I think the main unit was built in Italy.

The engine is identical to the 3 cyl diesels in the 135 and later MF's. Check the serial number before going for parts.
