I have a Massey Harris 44 or 44SP. The serial # is 44G1SF 45316. The 44G1SF suggests that the tractor is a 44 Special, however the 45316 suggests it is a 44. Any ideas which it is ??

By the number its a 1953 44. The 44G1SF in the model number is G-gas,1 is for reg altidude compression, S-standard, F-foot clutch. Any number under 47060 would be a 44.

Unless you have a combo of assembled parts, your
44 is a 40K series, 44 Standard, made in the
final year, 1953. The 40k series debuted in mid
1952, with throttle back on the steering column,
dual color rear light, thicker cast pedestal. All
44 Specials have 50K serial numbers. The quickest way to know it's a Special, is the shift boot
has a steel engage bracket bolted over it, same
as the Triples have.

I just bought 2 MH-44's--One is a wide front and the other is a tricycle. The wide front is stuck
and the tricycle runs great. The serial number plates are gone on both tractors. Where can I find the serial numbers stamped on the tractors?
I really like both tractors and plan on fixing them up.

Serial number shows that your tractor was made in 1953--making a 44 special.
