My PTO shaft turns upon starting the tractor but will stop once everything seems to warm up. This is with the lever disengaged! MF 180

After warm up it stops and it's business as usual.

Whats the problem fellas?

Dan from Ky.

Dan I imagine the PTO Brake is almost worn out. I would advice you to idle the engine back before disengaging the PTO to keep from wearing the brake out even faster.

Dean- my 285 also does this when it's cold out. I just had a new pto brake and everything put in it last summer. I use it on the blower alot which i think is the cause of this, but i don't have any other tractor to use on it right now. I wish i had my ollie 1600 running right now, it was great for the blower. My 165 also goes through the clutches fast if I use it on the pto alot. last year while the 285 was in the shop i used it on my baler, and now it is almost gone, and will probly put in a new one within the next year or 2. other wise it's a great tractor also, but the front end is all worn out from when i had a loader on it.

It may be the cold oil causing this, the rotating motion is transfered through the thick oil, once it warms up(oil thins out),pto stops turning.
