Folks:I need to know what the right oil for the combined tranny and hydraulic system is. I have seen the Permatran(AKA TDH fluid) and one other brand of it has a Ford spec# of M2C 134D, which is what's called for in the N series, so I thought it would be suitable for my MF35,since it's so similar. But an expert told me "no it's not", and another told me "yes it is". I've been told to use straight mineral 80w90 GL1 oil,80w90 GL4/5 EP gear oil,and 30wt motor oil. And I've been told the EP oils have additves that can damage parts. So I'm a little confused. Which oil is the right one? Thanks!

Perma-tran III is the lubricant of choice here. I think Big Dean will agree. He has been using it for years I think, and there must be a reason for that. My local MF tractor dealer also uses the Permatran lubes. Mineral oil based lubes have caused a lot of problems in the past. Ask around some more and email Dean Austin. check out his site too
as it has much information on MF tractors. He was an MF mechanic for 25+ years. hope this helps.

My MF35 instruction manual says straight mineral oil SAE 40

I'll mail you the scanned images of the pages if it seems hard to believe.
