MF-35 ... Tractor newbie looking for information

I just bought my first tractor, a somewhat restored MF-35 diesel. I don't know where to look for the serial number. The only stamped number I see on it is on the left side of the engine, and that number is 19B7953. All other numbers, as far as I can tell, are cast, so I assume are part numbers. I also don't know where to look on the web other than on Yesterday's Tractors (YT) for info by serial number, and YT only has the year. I'd like to find out more. I have a manual on order (from YT) but won't see it for weeks, so don't have the advantage of that info. Here's what I can say about it. Some of this seems to be useful for identifying it based on the discussion in another post regarding the "deluxe" models and what they included. However, maybe not since those things seemed to be available as options as well.

3 cyl diesel (I assume, based on other posts, that this is the Perkins? It starts really easy, even in cold weather; over 5000 hours on the tractor, but the engine was rebuilt at some point - don't know when); PTO lever has 3 positions (draft, neutral, tractor); dash has 4 gauges (oil, gas, battery, water) plus tractormeter; The rear wheels seem to have four positions based on how the two hub parts are configured. Don't know what a floating foam seat is, so can't say. This one is in two pieces. One straps onto the bottom and one to the back.

Can anybody tell me where to find the serial number, and where to go online to get more information? I'd also be real interested in knowing what it's worth, but know that depends on condition, and I don't have a picture to post yet. A range would be nice if anybody can make an intelligent guess based on what I've said.

Thanks!

Chuck, It sounds like you have a MF 35 very similar to my 63 model, Perkins diesel, P.T.O. setup etc. It sounds like you have the foam float seat too. My serial # is on a 2" square plate
(along with some other info) mounted to the dash housing adjacent to the headlight switch. Its not uncommon for these to be missing, you may just find a blank area with 4 empty fastener holes. My serial # SNM 236697 is for an early 63 diesel model. I paid $3000 for mine about 2 years ago with one implement included, but tractor prices seem to be regional. Try Big Dean's website for more info. Enjoy your tractor they're good ones!

Chris...

Yes, the plate is on the dash...don't know how I could have missed the SN. It is SNM 250583 - according to the YT listing, it's a '64.

Thanks again for your help.

Chris...

Thanks! That's very helpful. We thought it might be a '63, but weren't sure.

Yes, I remember a plate on the dash, but it seemed filled with various patent numbers. I'll have to look again and see what I can find in the way of a SN.

I'm afraid I paid a lot more than you did, even without implements - $4200, but I must add that I got several opinions first and that seemed like a fair price around here. Probably the most convincing was that the line was forming behind me, waiting for me to pass. :) The first time I looked at it, a call came from soembody else who apparently was ready to buy. Thanks to the seller being a friend of a friend, I was the first to inquire, even before the ad came out, and he gave me over the weekend to decide while others waited.

Now that you mention the headlight switch, as I was talking to the seller about the headlight switch, I also asked what the little thing sticking up over the bottom of the dash was and he said that it was a dash light - teh bulb was missing, so it wasn't exactly obvious. He started his sentence with "Well, this is a deluxe model..." but knowing his wry humor, I thought he was being facetious, but apparently, he meant "Deluxe" not "deluxe". :)

I've been out to Big Deans, but haven't taken time to browse past a quick glance at the home page. I'll be getting back there next chance.

Thanks again...I'm already enjoying it, and sure I will continue to do so.

I have the same model tractor, 1964 build. I have had it several years. It is the best small tractor I have ever owned, very reliable and extremely useful.

Bob...

Thanks for the feedback. As a first time tractor owner, it's reassuring to know that I got a good one. Interestingly enough, the guy that I bought this one from who rebuilds and sells tractors just finished and is selling another - also a 35, but not sure what year - but a gas engine. He's selling at the same price. I think I got the better deal of the two by far with the diesel. I am really enjoying it and getting a lot done with it. It's amazing how much more work there is to do around the place now that I have a tractor! :)
