Finally got her running "reasonably well". After mowing for about an hour when I got off to check a few things I noticed some motor oil seeping from around the bottom of the spark plugs (between the plug and the head ). I dont have a clue. Head has been overhauled, cylinders honed and new rings, new plugs. Engine does not smoke.

The push rod tubes are swedged into the head on the spark plug side and they can leak.

E.T.- I don't really understand how that works, but what's the fix?

Alongside each sparkplug you will see a steel tube going from the lower headgasket surface to the upper surface where the valve cover sits. The push rods go through these to the rocker arms. The top and bottom are expanded to seal them and hold them in place. I would take a large tapered punch, remove the pushrod, drop the punch in the pushrod hole and tap it with a hammer to stretch the tube a little tighter. This would have been easyer when the head was off. I hope this helps.
