Just bought this gem and trying to learn. How do you remove the oil filter; my manual shows an upside down bolt holding canister; but my tractor doesn't have one? Is it a spin-off? Also are the primary and secondary fuel filters the same? Help is much appreciated.

Hi Jim -

Both cartridge and spin-on filters were fitted - original or upgraded. The spin-on is better for installation - the cartridge could be improperly installed and leak - or not filter at all!

The oil filter for the VW Gas engine (Wix 51318, AC PF56 or generic eq.) fits. It's a half inch shorter (5" instead of 5 1/2") and often 1/4 the price, at Walmart for example.

Fuel filters can be identical, or different. On ours, the primary is a cartridge (3 1/2" high, 2 21/32 od, 15/16" hole) inside a bolt-on cannister (Wix 33194, AC FF23).

The secondary is a metal can held on by a cast cap on the bottom - the standard arrangement on many diesels. Can is 3 7/16 od, 2 5/8 high - CAV 7111/296, ACD51, Wix 33166.

I've seen two of these fitted as both primary and secondary on some units.

Hope this helps.

You have a good strong tractor there - welcome to the MF family!
