Thanks for all the assistance in the past , but I have one more question , what are the fuel economy numbers between Diesel or Gas ??? I have a brother in law who says both will be about the same,a IH dealer tells me that for every $ 20.00 I spend on Gas I could do the same job for $ 4.00 worth of Diesel, another dealer tells me the comparison will be about double for gas as it is for diesel, any opinions.

I'd agree with Bob. Probably 40 to 50% increase in economy.

Nebraska tests seem to bear this out- 8 to 10 hp/gal/hr for gas; 11 to 15 for diesels. Perkins are on the high end.

And our VW Golf diesels give us 45 to 60 mpg (imperial); the gas Rabbits - same weight and performance - 35 tops.

I have TO35s in both gas and diesel. The gas uses about 50% more fuel per hour. Under moderate power pulling a 7 foot disc the gas uses a little over a gallon and a half an hour and the diesel about a gallon. The diesel also has better low end grunt and does'nt bog down quite as easily.

These efficiencies hold true pretty much across the board for industrial and automotive applications. Diesel powerplants have always had better fuel consumption numbers. The basic reason for this is that diesel fuel has about 40% more BTUs per gallon than gasoline. I have been driving diesel cars for about 25 years now. They have never gained popularity here in the U.S. for a variety of reasons. Until recently, diesel engines have not had the power to weight ratio that gasoline engine have. The fuel is slower burning and the engines are slower turning, noisy and they have to be built heavier and stronger and are a little more expensive to produce. In the past they have been smokier and harder starting in cold climates. This situation has changed considerably in recent years and engines have come along way with starting characteristics, emmisions, power and noise. They have become increasingly popular in small pickup trucks. In eupose, diesel has been a popular option for many years. In future years, look for small diesels to be used in autos particularly in diesel electric hybrids where mileage will be up in the 70mpg range with relatively normal noise and performance.

Try 15 mpg for a 4 tons crew-cab/dually/4x4 pickup, and that's either empty or pulling 3 tons, can't get that good on gas.

I have a 78 Chevy Crew Cab Dually, not 4wd, but it does have the 454 Gas engine, It gets 13 Mpg empty or loaded, I have seen several similar trucks with only the 350 gas and they get 15, empty, but only 6 to 8 loaded. I think the ratio seems to be, larger engine vs smaller engine makes a huge difference, larger engines don't have to work as hard either. But Diesel's do consume less fuel also. I have two MF Tractors both perkin's diesel's. They both are very cheap on fuel.

I think so.My service truck is powered by Ford's V-10 ,6.7litre and my co-worker has the same model truck(F-350)with 7.3L powerstroke diesel.I told them not to get the gas burner!I get 10-12mpg ,and he gets 22mpg.I have diesel MF135 and it uses considerably less fuel than a gas burner.You will have a harder time starting the diesel in cold weather,but it doesn't get terribly cold here!Make sure you got good quality battery and don't use starting fluid.

Replaced a Ford 8N with a MF231. The tractors were used to mow old hayfields and cart wood. Nothing too overpowering. The Ford would need 50 gallons a season. The MF231 diesel does more work on 10 gallons a season. No comparison!!!!
