The 44special has a longer front frame and the engine is a 277 cubic inchs. The front hubs are also different. The front wheels are held on with lugs and nuts rather than just wheel bolts. The front pedastal is also built heavier it has aextra bracket on the back side of the axle.

The frames on my 44 and my 44 Special measure the same in length.

Bruce, I don't know what you got there but the frame on a 44 and 44 Special, measure approximately 69 1/2 inches long. The Special frame has a thicker side rail of 1 inch compared to a 44 which is 3/4. The front ends are taller but I've never seen an extra bracket.

The model numbers apply to the 44's and 44 Special alike. Only the serial numbers identify the different years.. 44's ended in 1953 with 47,060. The Specials start 1953 50,001 to 51,363 1954 51,364 to 58,066 and 1955 58,067 to 60,719
