if you have a torch you can heat a line straight up and down the length of the liner, when it cools it will be smaller and you can pull it out.you can also split the liner with a small sharp screwdriver from the bottom

Jack, I can't reply with the picture ( no e-mail address ). If you want the picture and service manual pages for removing and replacing the cylinder liners e-mail me and I'll send them. One thing though, I'm leaving to go out of town in the morning and won't get back till next Friday night. If you can wait I'll send it then. Jack

I just did a 3 cylinder Perkins. I have the tool to do the job. You can rent one if you want. With the proper cylinder liner tool taking the liners out isn't that hard. When putting them back in I packed mine in dry ice for 24 hrs. After that they go right in. I'll scan a picture of the tool and send it to you. Jack

If you have never tried it before, leave it to the shop to swap liners and fit the pistons.
The liners are dry liners, which come in different sizes and material (cast steel or chromium) and they are a pain to get in ok if you haven't tried before. I cracked mine and took out the pieces, then froze the new ones in CO2 and fit them in place with a gloved fist inside.
It must fit correctly the first time, otherwise it will cost you a new liner, as you will be sure to break it trying to get it out for a new try.
(tried it the hard way)

Good luck Thyge

I agree with Thyge. My neighbor, a retired mechanic that has rebuilt several tractors for his farm was helping me (actually, I was helping him) rebuild my MF35 Perkins diesel, and he ruined a sleeve. He was able to turn a piece of steel on his lathe for pressing the new ones into the cylinder and then we placed the new sleeves in a freezer and we got it done. I would never do it on my own.

I'd like that picture Jack, thanks!

Oh and, what is the point of getting the liners done by a mechanic if I havn't done it before/ If everyone did that cus they hadn't done it before, nobody would ever try it and be able to do it themselves, if you get what I mean!

If that is how you feel, please disregard any suggestions made from my part.
It seems to me that you will be better off on your own.

Sorry about the inconvenience...

You have to understand, I am mechanically challenged. I am a computer person that dabbles in other things. My neighbor would never take it to a shop, he is the do everything type. I guess I just assumed you were like me and the best bet without help is the local pro.
