When digging a post hole with an auger I turned off the tractor after digging a hole. When i tried to start back up it was dead with no spark. This is a 1970 model diesel. I have checked the kill switch for the transmission, battery, starter button, alternator, starter. It was converted to a single wire alternator system by the previous owner. Anybody got any idea what is the problem?
It has always cranked right up until now.

Several thing can cause this. Is it one that has the inline fuse holders down by the starter solenoid they were a source for problems. Dirty or loose Battery terminal. The copper strap from the starter to the solenoid will get corroded and not make contact where it connects to the solenoid. As will the battery cable where it connects to the solenoid. Check where the ground cable connects to the chassis to be sure it is contacting there. I would first use a test light or volt meter to check where the current stop it's travel in the starter system. That is the best way I have found to pin point the problem. Email me if you need more help

Probably your battery terminals. Do you have lights? You could - very carefully with tractor in neutral - short across the starter motor with a screwdriver or jumper leads, This may getyou started and you can sort the wiring problem later,
Also check the rear of the starter switch to ensure all leads are ok. Big Dean has wiring diagrams on his site.
