I have a serious fluid leak comming from area above what I would describe as a butterfly plate where the engine and transmisson hook up. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks

I can sympathize with this problem. I have a TO-35 which had a similar problem. Is there a great amount of fluid? Does it look like tranny oil or engine oil. Mine was leaking thru the seals (2) in the tranny input shafts. Actually, so much oil was in the bell housing, it came pouring out of the starter one day (I was facing down a steep hill at the time) - guess that's why it didn't have much of a clutch. Looking at the other response you got, it has to be one of these 2 things (or a small access plate and bearing housing in the front of the tranny under the input shafts housing) and both require the tractor to be split to fix. I fixed mine last summer (myself), not a lot of cost in it, but definitely a lot of time and muscle!
Good luck !
Noah

Is the fluid oil which is escaping from the clutch adjusting aperture on the bottom of the bellhousing? If so I would bet its the rear crankshaft oil seal that is leaking - I had the same problem with a 65 and had to split the tractor.
Peter.
