F-40 Rim Size?

I just picked-up a 1957 Massey Ferguson F-40. It has 14.9-24 tires on the back and they are in bad shape. I'm about to put new rubber on the rear, but I have my doubts about these being the original size rims because of a few pictures I've found on the internet, and also because it sits a few inches higher in front than it does in the back. It's in good shape and I might want to try to make it as close as possible to original sometime. I'm thinking that I might as well put the correct rims and tires on it now if these aren't right so I only have to pay for new rubber once. Any ideas on what size rims this machine had originally? Also, this machine doesn't have power steering, but others that I've heard of had P/S. Was it an option?
Thanks Alot! Garry

It sounds like you have a high crop 40. They sat up higher and had larger diameter rear tires. I don't know what size. Power steering was an option on the 40's. Mine doesn't have it, but I'm planning to pick up a system at a salvage yard and install it.

Thanks for the reply, Matt. Good to know that I don't have a cannibalized steering system. Big Dean e-mailed me direct and told me that my tractor originally had 28-inch rims on it, and he also gave me a few names to check with for new rims and centers and tires. Thanks Big Dean- I'm glad that you share your knowledge with all of us.
