I do not know the horsepower of the 165 but I will say that by having a gas engine you can pretty much tinker on it yourself in order to maintain it. I presently have a MF 135 gas with a Perkins AG3-152 engine. The cost savings of maintenance outweighs the extra minimal cost of fuel. It also cranks better in cold weather than a diesel.

I disagree. I think you would much better off with a diesel. Buy one in good condition and it will last much longer than a gas tractor without the constant "tinkering" required. Perkins diesels will use a lot less fuel and also are very good winter time starters.

I have a 150 gas and a 165 diesel. Depends what you want to do with the tractor. If you have a lot of heavy work than a diesel with a tight engine. I can tell you I do not do a lot of tinkering with the gas engine. Changed plugs and points when I bought it 5 years ago. Of course I do not use it everyday, but do use it for raking and cutting hay in the summer and plowing snow in the winter.

I have a 1973 165 diesel rowcrop model. I would recomend the diesel over gas-much better on fuel and with the block heater, I've never had a problem starting. HP is 52.

I think the Nebraska test on the MF165 gas reported about 47 HP (and I think this was the drawbar value). I had a 165 for about 12 years--
good tractor, but it was very fond of gasoline.
Just traded it in on a Kubota last fall. At the dealer's clearance auction (Watertown, WI) in January this tractor sold for $5150.

It has about 52 pto. The asking price for them, in good condition, are still pretty good. They make an exellent tractor for small jobs, even some big. Mine doesn't seem to be as fond of gas, espescially for some other tractors out there. I love using my lil' Massey.

they are a really nice size tractor, great for all kinds of work and are better on gas than most tractors their size, J.R. KS.
