Thanks for your help on my MF25. The number I posted came off the dash plate. The other number is 25 SNMY. Also, I'm getting water in the transmission oil. Is there a freeze plug at the back of the Perkins?? Thanks a million for sharing your knowledge!!!

I have not seen the back of a Perkins, and can not find any pictures showing it. I bought a Deutz and found water in its transmission, I know that did not come from the engine. I thought maybe it leaked in from bad shift lever boots or condensation from many years of siting outside. I see this web site sells under Parts and Supplies a parts manual for the 25 and service and operator manuals for the 130. If you ever find out the year for your 25 please post me a message. I would like to know why the different serial number in case this question comes up again.

Hurry up and get some new shift lever boots, if the tractor is stored outside, or you use a water hose to clean it. This is common problem number one when it comes to water in transmission.
If you experience cold weather with water freezing you also may experience a full transmission overhaul because of the water. The frosen water tends to break lock rings, and you may need to do a full repair.
We had this on our MF 65, a big job.

Also, condensation gives water in transmission, but very little, a good advise is to empty the transmission for water, just take out the outlet plugs and poor a little out in a bin (remember both plugs). Do this when the tractor has been stored for a while, and you can get some of the water out.

No water can come from the engine into the transmission. The clutch housing sits between, and there is a seal on the transmission shaft to prevent oil from the transmission to enter the clutch housing. Then, the clutch housing normally have an opening under, and a plate to cover. Often no gasket there, so if water for some reason should enter the clutch housing it would come out. You can also check this by removing the plate. You can then see the flywheel and clutch. If we assume that water came from the engine into the clutch housing, the clutch would be slipping long before the level reached the transmission input shaft and could enter the transmission, and only if the transmission seal ALSO was broken.

Either you have been driving in deep water, or the shift lever boots are the problem. You have the answer yourself. The condensing problem will need a long time to make any amounts of water.

I don't know if there is any freeze plugs in the back of the Perkins you have, but most likely it would be mounted between the transmission housing and the head. I find it a bit odd if the cylinder goes so deep that there is place for a freezing plug in the clutch housing in front of the flywheel. A crack maybe, but then no water can come into the transmission.

I payed $4 per shift lever boots, just some few days ago.
