Hi, my uncle has an older (early '60's???) TO35 and was wanting to purchase a plow and disc for it. I'm not sure of the year, but I know it is a gas engine. I used to drive this tractor years ago on our farm and it was a nice tractor, but from what I remember it didn't have much HP. I told him I wasn't sure if it would pull a plow such as a 2-14. Any insight if it will pull a plow would sure be appreciated.

Thanks,

Eric Krauska

Our gas MH50, which is close to the same thing, never had any trouble with 2-14's up in northern Minnesota in some pretty stubborn soil, or what passed for it. The shares were dull too. That was also before the engine rebuild.

When I was a kid, the local Massey dealer would bring one of those things out to the local farms and raise a few eyebrows. They weren't used to the weight transfer that the 3 pt hitch helped with. At least, not the Farmall H types anyway.

I've pulled 2-16 with my MF-135 in Iowa black dirt.

Gerald,

I am not savvy to plow types. What is a 2-14 or 2-16? Is it a 2 disc one way (disc's throwing the dirt the same direction with a cast iron idler wheel in the back to offset the torque) and is the diameter of the blade 14" or 16".

FYI, you haven't seen a mess until you try our Houston Black Clay here in Texas. This stuff will only let you work it when it is transitioning from wet to dry or back; like cutting water with a knife when wet and mining rocks with a table fork when hard.

Thanks,

Mark

2-14 or 2-16 pertains to two moldboard bottoms that cut a 14 or 16" swath each. The plow shares are longer than the "size" of the plow bottom.

I doubt my MF-135 would pull one ten inch bottom in that stuff you claim to be dirt. I lived in Allen, Texas in the early 60s for a couple years. Only two feet to limestone. I remember the big tractors of the era pulled only two bottoms there. But that stuff is so hard to get anything to grow in, I didn't see any reason to cultivate it after the first time I tried to plant a couple tomatoes in the yard. I couldn't get a shovel into the ground when it was dry and when it was wet I couldn't get the muck off the shovel. I had to scrape the shovel with my shoe, then scrape the muck to the back of the shovel from my shoe, them scrape the muck back to the hole. I planted the rest of the tomatoes by wiggling a hole. They didn't like the heat and produced about the next December.
