Oil Leak/ Oil Pressure Too High?

1) A few days ago @ 20 degree morning, I went to start my MF135 (Gas Perkins). I jumped started it with my other tractor and noticed it was turning over slower than normal (even with TWO batteries!). It finally started and everything seemed fine, while I was waiting for it to warm up, after a few minutes, I noticed oil seeping from the front oil seal area (behind the timing cover). Did the oil pressure blow out my front oil seal? (using 10-30w oil).

2)Similar thing happened at an auction, the other day, but the oil pressure gauge was almost pegged (Another MF-135 Gas Perkins)and oil was seeping out the top of the oil filter unit. Again the tractor idled fine with no apparent noises.

What could cause this type of problem, both on GAS Perkins engines?

dont see how i missed this one! i have an FE-35 62 model 3 banger perkins diesel.i noticed other day while disking that oil pressure gauge was pegged in the red (all the way to top). running about 1600 r's reduced throttle and it dropped some. took it down to idle and still showed probably 80 to 85%. no leaks noted anywhere, do i possibly have a bad gauge or is somethig wrong. my first tractor other than fathers 8N and no experience with diesels. depending on you guys to teach me. alredy picking up quite a bit. thanks

i believe both problems are cold temperature related. there is not enough pressure in the crankcase to "blow" the seal. the rubber in the seals become hard when there cold. the oil also becomes thick. you might try and an oil additive that softens the seals as a quick fix until spring. also check the crankcase vent tube is not plugged. i had a vent tube plugged once and when the tractor started it blew the dipstick about ten feet. the high pressure problem sounds like the oil its self. i think by changing the oil to a 5w-30w high detergent and filter should cure the problem. these problems are not just "perkins" but for all engines, gasoline and deisel. don't forget about the "ghosts" like gasoline getting into the oil for your #1 problem via the fuel pump or a down draft carb. roy from victoria texas.

Thanks Roy for some feedback. But, I've had my Massey for a few years and plow snow alot in the Winter. Never ever... had this problem. I did check the oil pressure gauge, although not pegged, mine is about 75% (higher than normal!). I've started it yesterday, mid 50's, oil now coming out the front seal, and oil pressure higher than normal.

Where is the crankcase vent tube located on the 3 cylinder Perkins Gas engine?
