MF 65 3 PT question

I bought the operator's manual for my new/used 65 MF, but its not very clear on the operation of the 3 point hitch. My tractor has two hydro valves in front of the seat, and it has the ferguson system controls to the right of the seat.

I am wondering if something is wrong. The only control that will move the 3 point is the left hydro lever, which is also the control for one set of external hoses to the rear. This makes that set of hoses almost useless.

Others that I have spoken to say they aren't positive, but that the 3 point should operate by the larger lever of the three on the ferguson system control and not the hydro valve. Nothing seems to happen differently wherever I position this lever in speed etc. Even when I move the small lever, not much happens until its all the way forward, and then the 3 point won't raise at all.

I sure would appreciate it if someone could explain how this is suppose to work.

Thank you again,

Matt Marsh

I have a 150 with a the same setup 2 hydraulic valve in front and ferguson controls on the right and two sets of auxillary hose at the back.

To raise or lower the 3 point hitch the left hydraulic lever should be pushed ahead or back. If you look on the handle there is a flat head set screw that should hold the handle ahead or back. The left hyraulic lever is left there when using 3 point hitch. With the handle ahead or back you should be able to use the fergoson system levers to raise or lower the 3 point hitch. One is the draft and the other is up/down (explained in the owners manual)

If you want to use auxilary hydraulics use the right side hoses and handle. If you need both sets of hoses you have to build something to hold the 3 point hitch up otherwise it will move up and down before your cylinder. I used a arm that goes throught the lower arm and goes through the top link.

You are right, Marcel - the drawbar has to be locked to allow the left control to operate a remote cylinder.

Without the second remote cylinder attachment, the left lever acted either as a switch valve to turn the right lever on or off, or to lift and lower the lift arms. In the neutral or center position, the three point controls should work normally if the internal linkages are adjusted orrectly.

With the system in the 35's and 65's, the oil flow decreases as the lift arms are raised. With the arms in the full up position, there is almost no oil flow available for remote operation.

For this reason, the arms and drawbar should be secured as low as possible. There is a factory kit with two bars (like sway bars) from the 3-point drawbar ends to the top link attachment point, holding the drawbar about 12" off the ground. This also allows the drawbar to be used for normal pulling. These were about 5/16 x 2 strap, with appropriate bends at each end. Easy to make.

Kind of mickey mouse, but works. The later systems had a mod allowing constant pumping, which sort-of overcame this problem.

Hope this helps.

Hi Matt

I had a MF65 many years ago with this device
It was installed to avoid an auxiliary hydraulic
pump, This setup permits to operate different devices with the tractor basic pump. For my MF65
it was used to operate a front loader. If my memory is good for normal rear 3 point operation
the left lever ont the trans cover (the one with a latch) was at rear position, for operation of the front loader it was at center position then the 3 point does not operate but stays at the position it was. On yours with the lever a center position permits to operate oil outlet by using the lever next right whitch is spring return to the center, in some systems right lever pulled rear circulate oil in one direction and pushed forward oil in reverse direction. Only 3 point or oil outlet will work at a time... but you can switch to one to the other quickly with the left lever.

Please give us feedback it sometimes help others

Hope this wil help

Part -2- When the left lever is at center position
your 3 point hith will work normallywith the controls located at right of the seat.

If I remember on some tractors the functions were
reversed. Just put the lever with the latch at rear try the 3 point with its controls if it works
it is the correct position. If not put the lever with latch at center an try 3 pont control.

This MF65 was a good machine was diesel Perkins
engine and multi-power. I will be soon retired in my little farm and looking around to find one in good shape.

Good luck
