I've hear all three names being used but are they the same tractor? I've just bought (well it comes with a farm) one which simply says "Ferguson 35" on the side. I haven't looked for a plate or even know if its 3 or 4 cylinder - it is a diesel.

A clarification of what my last response was. From 1957 through 1959 the Ferguson 35 was still designated as a TO-35 and some of these tractors carried both the Ferguson 35 and the MF logos. The tractor was labeled purely as a MF 35 from 1960 through 1963. Confusing? It was during that transition period.

The Ferguson TO-35 was first built in late 1954. Its hood badges said "Ferguson 35". Shortly after it was introduced, Harry Ferguson, Inc. and Massey-Harris merged. Eventually the TO-35 (Ferguson 35) changed colors, some sheet metal, etc. and became the Massey-Ferguson 35. It was produced as the MF 35 from late 1957 until 1960.

Your response sounds right. EVERY 255 sold in my area had major problems that did not go away after repair.Bad engineering in there somewhere. Best bet is to fix the problem, then get rid of the tractor. Out of 6 or 7 than I can remember every one was traded within 2 or 3 years. One of the very few lemons from Massey.

The original colors of the TO-35 were Ferguson Gray for the sheet metal, seat, hydraulic controls, front wheels, and rear wheel center disks. The rest was Massey-Ferguson Metallic Green (DuPont # 14883D).The rear rims were Ferguson Metallic Silver (Dupont # 45818)

I have a 150 with a the same setup 2 hydraulic valve in front and ferguson controls on the right and two sets of auxillary hose at the back.

To raise or lower the 3 point hitch the left hydraulic lever should be pushed ahead or back. If you look on the handle there is a flat head set screw that should hold the handle ahead or back. The left hyraulic lever is left there when using 3 point hitch. With the handle ahead or back you should be able to use the fergoson system levers to raise or lower the 3 point hitch. One is the draft and the other is up/down (explained in the owners manual)

If you want to use auxilary hydraulics use the right side hoses and handle. If you need both sets of hoses you have to build something to hold the 3 point hitch up otherwise it will move up and down before your cylinder. I used a arm that goes throught the lower arm and goes through the top link.
