I am having trouble with the rubber mounting on the voltage regulator for my MF 65. When I purchased the tractor 2 years ago, the rubber mounting on the voltage regulator had deteriorated and the regulator was hanging by the wires. I replaced the regulator and now the rubber mountings have deteriorated on it. Is this normal? Is there an alternate design for these regulators that does not have external rubber mountings? There seems to be no way to replace the rubber mountings as they are built into the regulator, so when they go bad, I guess you have to buy a whole new regulator. This seems like a design problem on the original regulator that would have been remedied by now. I suppose I could fabricate some type of backet to hold the regulator, but I wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks!!

if this is a generator regulator then the you can use strips cut out from a car tire to replace them. on an alternator vesion, use a newer type alternator with built in regulator. I think gas and diesel vapor rot the rubber mounts,

I have seen this before, but to tell the truth, the best fix is to take the generator and regulator off and install a GM alternator with internal regulation. Might be simplier than other fixes. Tom S.

Thanks for your comment. What would be involved in replacing the generator and voltage regulator with an alternator? Do you have to fabricate a new bracket or are there aftermarket brackets available?

See if you can't remove the rubber and steel parts of the bushings to leave large holes. Radio Shack has some soft plastic grommets that may fit, otherwise make them by stacking up various sized rubber washers cut from an inner tube, then put in the steel inner sleeve and flat washers to keep the mounting screw from totally squashing the rubber mountings. Since the regulator works by vibrating, it needs some shock mounting to protect it from engine vibration.
