can anyone talk me through whats needed to replace the existing 12v dynamo with a generator, please.
I guess it would mean going to negative earth, and would I need any mods to coil or distributor.
Also, does anyone know of converting tractor to run on LPG??

Ive been told to use a General Motors alternater (late model) because it has a built in regulator so you dont have to replace the regulator on the tractor.

I have a TE20 my Dad gave me that I am in the process of fixing up. When he bought it about 35 years ago it had been converted to run on liquid propane. My Dad had to have a 'wet line' installed on his big tank to refill the tractor. He never had any problems with it. A big advantage is easy cold weather starting and the engine and oil stays extremely clean. I am going to leave it LPG powered. Also, an auto electric shop said I should buy a self-exciting 12v alternator for my tractor. They sell them for about $65.00. The advantage is only one line needed to the battery--it doesn't get any simpler.
Hope it helps,
Mike

If you change to 12Volt you must go to Negative ground because of the Alternator internly is negative ground through the diodes, etc. The 12volt coil should be changed to have the negative connection going to the distributor points. The old 6 volt starter will work on 12 volt for a long time (maybe years) if you don't crank the engine for an extended period. Also the starter doesn't care if it is neg or pos. ground. It would be simpliest to get a Alternator with a built in voltage regulator to make wiring simplier.
