I have a gas tractor model F-40, painted and decaled as a massey ferguson 50 ( circa 1957). It is painted red over yellow and grey. It has been repainted obviously and since i am restoring it , I would like to know the correct colour scheme. Would anyone have pictures, manuals , information, etc that would help me.

Also why is a massey tractor with a chrome 40 on the front hood decaled as a massey ferguson 50. Could it be a massey harris in disguise. The serial number is CGM 405048 with a massey harris ferguson continental gas motor Z134843608.

The Ferguson 40 and the Massy-Harris 50 were the same tractor, except there were some differences with the front axle. They were made early in the Massy-Harris and Harry Ferguson merger, while they were following a "two line" policy. Later, the MH 50 got some sheet metal modifications and became the Massy-Ferguson 50. HP on all these is equivalent to the MF 35. Any of the books on MF or Ferguson will give you the story on this and the colors for the F 40.

TAFE makes the same tractor in orange. Imported from a different corner of the world, and must be made by slave labor, cause it costs even less. Never owned one or seen one or sold one, so don't start writing raising cane, all I know is there are virtually the same.
People tell me it all has something to do with supply and demand, and to study the forgien exchange rates.
Go figure. Tom S.
