Now, that would be a a pretty tough job. I don't know if engine serial numbers were really ever used as far as 'the' tractor it was mounted into, even at the factory. I've got a little BF Avery here and I've got exactly the same problem as you do. If however it is a 101 Super, then here is where your serial number 'should ' fall. Row Crop model - #258286 to 260717 Standard tread models - #357871 to 359424 I know all this gives you is the total production numbers, using a little subtraction about 2500 row crops and about 1650 standard tread. My 101 Juniors have an oval tin plate with the serial number on it, just on the left side on the cast iron 'tub' (which holds the motor & clutch), just ahead of the transmission casting. I think all of the MH's from this era were there. Look carefully there for a couple of very small rivets that still might be there (that held the plate on), or maybe the rivet holes, or maybe 2 sheared-off rivets (but they're very small, like maybe 1/16 inch so they're hard to find). This is probably where the plate would have been. If you find anything, then all you've got is 2 rivet holes (or rivets) and no serial plate, big deal huh?
