I recently Purchased a MF 175(one owner, cherry).I know it is a constant running main pump; however, how much noise should it make. Also, when you place it in the transport position without an implement, you can here the pump knocking. I have not tried it with an implement, but is this normal. One more thing, when raising the three point it sometimes shakes. Is a rebuild of the main pump in my future or could this be a filter problem (haven't opened it up to see yet).

Several possibilities, the knocking sound could be caused by broken or badly worn locating pins that hold the pump in place. They will let the pump bump against the housing if broken.Check the filter if it is clogged it can cause the shaking. If this does not help it, you probably will have to do a pump rebuild I would also do the adjustments on the top cover also. If the adjustments are off the lift may be going up to far and the relief valve blowing could also make the knocking sound.

How difficult is it to rebuild the main pump? Are there any special tools required? I am going to order a service manual which will surely explain the procedure in detail, but I would like to Know what other people have experienced.
